BTW…
Never said this would be a humorous blog…
Gotta rant on IE
Must say I like this FireFox. It handles everything better than IE, except for ActiveX, of course. Pages load faster, tabbed windows, built in popup blocker, better password “wallet”. Plus its skinnable. Yeah, I’m a sucker for eye candy. My biggest beef with IE is its lack of transparent png support. It also renders png colors incorrectly. Take a look at the logo bar, if you don’t believe me. The blue is the same color as the rest of the header, but IE doesn’t render it correctly.
Linux FTP and virtual directories?!
Why can’t linux ftp daemons handle virtual directories?! It seems that pretty much all their Window’s counterparts are able too. It’s almost like it is a forgien concept. In linux, it is refered to as a chroot() jail. Which is cool cus it locks a user into a particular directory. But all of them use the unix chroot() system function, which breaks symlinks (another unix system function) that point outside of the chrooted directory.
on a whim
I decided to upgrade to Drupal 4.40, which has a lot of theme changes. As such, the site might look a little ugly till I get everything sorted out.
todo list
As always this site is a work in progress. As I learn my way around drupal, I’ll add and subtract features as I see fit.
I still have to do is setting up my taxonomy. This will allow me to organize the sight into meaningful categories. Then you lucky users will be able to pull up my posts on a particular subject. Ain’t that swell?!
I’d also like to be able to embed the picture gallery into drupal. I like gallery, but it’d be nice to wrap the look of the site on it.
wikiwiki is now notes
I changed the wikiwiki section to notes. The reasoning for this is two fold:
First, wikiwiki isn’t as descriptive as notes is. In Hawaiian, wikiwiki means fast, so the name really applies to the way you markup the text, not to a section.
Second, I found Drupal’s title module. When I was messing around with the wiki module, I really liked the ability to link to other pages by using the title in square brackets, which is why I decided to go with it. What I didn’t like was the way it would format paragraphs. Then I found the title module. The only thing it does is allow you to link to pages using the title in square brackets. Problem solved.
the cable guy
Cable guy came on Friday to fix RR. I’m curious if I’m going to be charge a “maintenance” fee for the outlets I put in the newly finished basement. Plus I split the cable in the office; one going to the cable modem and the other to my video capture card. Will I be charged a fee for the video capture card?
For me it is all really confusing. With any phone service, there is a clear point of demarcation (the point at which the phone company will no longer fix any problems). After that point, it is the customer’s worries. With, at least, our cable service, there doesn’t seem to be any point.
Site been down?
If you’ve been trying to access the site this past week, you might have noticed its been up and down quite a bit. I’ve been having some issues with my cable modem and it should be fixed by this Friday.
added articles and wiki wiki
You might notice the aticles and wiki links below the site title now.
Articles is the place to find things I write and its organized into “book” style for easy reading. This is a place for me to give back to the rest of ya. Boy that sounds sappy, but its true.
The wiki section is my place to through random junk collected from the interent, awaiting consumption or a place to stick notes to myself. Feel free to browse through it, though I make no warranty on the information contained in it. Strike that. I make no warranty on anything you might find on this site anyways.
