the call for digital rights
Jack informed me of this book, Free Culture by Lawrence Lessig, which he stated was a good read (which you can download the whole book here). So I started reading it, and must agree with him. Although, I’m not finished reading it yet, I wanted to make my post.
Over the past few years, I’ve increasing become more aware and concerned with intellectual property rights. Being a general tech-geek, it really strikes a nerve at how quickly our rights over digital versus meatspace “stuff” is being taken away. And to top it off, how unaware non-geeks are to this.
The BIG problem, as I see it, is that by the time the rest of the country realizes what has happened, it will be too late. We are in the middle of a paradigm shift that will shape our creative rights of the future.
So I want to help awaken everyone before it IS too late, hence this post. Although the flip side is that if no one cares are we are plunged into this future of Corporate Brother, it would very much be like the SciFi stories I get a kick out of. Then I can become an IT ninja, fighting with the rebellion against the empire while couriering butt loads of data for extra cash in my tricked out neruo storage device.
