Not enough time…
I’ve caught the VoIP fever and I want to be my own telco.
Given this: Free Skype
and this: Asterisk
I should be able to make something happen. Basically, I would use the asterisk server act as my POTS-to-VoIP gateway. This is similar to the CallVantage and Vonage setup, with the asterisk server acting as my TA device. Then I can hook up with any provider which doesn’t use a locked TA (sorry CallVantage and Vonage).
I see a whole spectrum of possiblities. Hooks in my imaginary IPTV setup (probably MythTV). PSTN access to my schedule of shows to record.
Hmm, seems there isn’t any Skype-Asterisk integration yet, but there’s a bounty for it.
This will all tie into my 3 wired subnets: data, video, voice. QoS on the video and voice and a nice fat pipe, should be more than enough to meet my demand. Of course, it will all have to cram through a 4Mb uplink. Enter FTTCF, “Fiber to the Corn Field”.
Now you see why I have no time…
