Chuck does the CJO
I was lucky enough to get a free ticket to see Chuck Mangione with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra last night. Man alive they were on fire. While Chuck didn’t make his appearance until the second set, the CJO opened with Bobby Floyd and a light little diddy that blossomed into a all-out electrified song. From that point on, the band was on fire with the crowd fueling it on.
By the second set everyone was sufficiently heated for the main event. Song selections were based on his most memorable ones, which was a-okay with me. Those played included Children of Sanchez, Land of Make Believe, Feels So Good, and Bellavia.
I only wish I could keep track of the song titles better. I tend to loose myself in the music and neglect to pay attention when the title is announced.
That aside, I must applaud Byron Stripling for the tremendous work he has done with the CJO. He brings the perfect attitude and enthusiasm to the group that just brings out the best in everyone.
