Photosynth

This is probably the coolest thing I have seen MS create in a while: Photosynth.  It really has me excited, which is something usually only Google does.  I learned about it from Microsoft 10 via Scoble’s shared RSS feeds.  Watching the interview, I had the feeling of Web 3.0 bubbling up inside of me:  where our desktop, Internet and digital lives fully interweave.  The bit at the end where he mentioned jumping in the picture and being able to surf meatspace places in a pseudo VR world blows me away.
Truly great times we are living in!

We’ve pissed off the giant

For better or worse, I think we have Microsoft’s full attention now.  I hope our suit is worth it.

Vista

I guess because I work in the “computer” field, family and friends tend to think of me as someone who knows all there is to know about computing (what you disagree?!). Here recently I have been getting asked my opinion on Microsoft’s newest and yet-to-be-released Operating System, Vista.

Typically this boils down to am I going to upgrade. In short the answer is no; I don’t see any reason to. Sure there are some security improvements, and sure there are some pretty slick eye-candy additions (you know me and candy!), but there isn’t any overwhelming reason to shell out the moolah for it.

I think lifehacker’s Q&A article sums it up nicely:

…Microsoft representatives kept using the word “innovative” to describe Vista and other new MS products – but I just don’t see it. (Sorry, Microsoft!) To me, Microsoft’s role in the consumer tech industry in recent years has been less about innovation, and more about rolling out advanced tech to the masses who are using Windows. Because of Vista, my sister will get the term “RSS feed” onto her radar and start doing things like create saved search folders and opening web pages in tabs. That’s a great thing, but it just isn’t innovation in my book.

For me, Linux is the innovative operating system…  Now back to wrapping presents.
